"… We live in a time of great tragedy but also great beauty, where we can see the triumphs and the failures of humanity in the palm of our hand..... at first I thought the solution to these terrible feelings was to simply learn more and try to be on the right side of the street and just to hope for a better future. But I’ve realized that that’s not the actual solution. One of my teachers put it really well to me..... They said that “at some point you have to stop hoping for a better world, you have to start building one”. To me that is what community service is. So, with that in mind let us continue to work for the liberation of the earth and all its inhabitants. Thank you.”

"I first fell in love with community service in middle school when I discovered the power of helping others. There is something so special and rewarding about being there for others and contributing to making the world a better place. I believe actions, even small gestures, can make a huge impact on others’ lives...”

"… I have been able to volunteer with a really vast group of organizations in our community. This has helped me deepen my understanding in the struggles that people in our community face and what aspects go into that. Alongside that, I have also been able to realize the power that comes with working alongside others to fix these issues and how as a community, as long as we work together, we actually have a really big power and a really big impact on solving these issues.”

"We have these small events. And a lot of people, when I tell them to join YCS, Youth Connect, they hesitate because these events are small. You feel like they’re not really making an impact. You think that these big events have to be super lavish, they have to cover all the boundaries. I like to think of the communities problems as a big pile of trash. When it comes to picking trash you are not going to grab it all up at once with like a crane, stuff is going to slip and there’s going to be issues. You gotta take it one at a time, one issue at a time and that’s why I value these small events because they can make such a big impact, they can leave such a niche group feeling so much better, and they don’t take as many resources or as much of your time to leave that big of an impact. So always be sure to pick up the trash one piece at a time.”

"…YCS, an organization that has inspired me and many others to go out into our local communities and provide service to the local struggling communities. I’m glad to have been a part of such a caring and supportive organization filled with people who emphasize the importance of the impacts youth can have on their local communities…”
