YCS School Based Programs

The Goal of YCS School Based Programming: To create a culture of service within every learning community.

School Service

YCS tailors our offerings to the specific needs of a given school, ensuring that the offerings are relevant, engaging, and meaningful for students and staff. YCS reduces barriers to accessing meaning service by regularly offering programs on campus during the school day.

YCS staff work closely with school staff and students to create a culture of service. Some of the ways we achieve this include:

Weekly service opportunities – this can be achieved through student clubs, lunch time activities, and/or after school projects.

School-wide service events – Events typically are either Service Days where YCS connects students with a variety of service field trips or activities or a service fair where we invite community partners to share their service opportunities with students.

Service hour verification – YCS processes students’ reported service hours from a variety of agencies for graduation requirements, transcript recognition, or class assignments.

President’s Volunteer Service Award Certification – YCS patterns with schools to offer their students certification for the nationally recognized President’s Volunteer Service Award.

Service-Learning Consulting – YCS consults with school staff on a variety of topics that can include: incorporating meaningful service learning into curriculum, understanding what is considered “service,” and helping to create service projects utilizing our many connections in the community.

YCS has many years of experience working with schools in the Sequoia Union High School District, Ravenswood City School District, and the Palo Alto Unified School District.
