In the academic year 2022-23, with the generous support of our donors and program partners, Youth Community Service (YCS) engaged over 12,829 participants who collectively contributed over 60,921 hours of community service. January
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr & Mitzvah Day of Service, brought together youth and community leaders from across the peninsula. Read the Palo Alto Weekly article featuring our event and also sign-up for the 2024 Day of Service on Monday, January 15!

The Gunn High School YCS-Interact club organized its annual service day with multiple local organizations. Annually YCS engages students from across 65 Bay Area Schools on various service learning and youth leadership programs. Check out our Do Service Calendar. |

April
YCS Spring Authors Celebration in April featured authors Olatunde Sobomehim and sam seidel who engaged us with a work map to tap into our "Creative Hustle" and unlock our unique gifts to create a better world for youth and ourselves. Watch a slide show from the event below. |

At our Celebration of Service YCS recognized students for their leadership and contributions to the community. YCS certified over 20,040 hours of community service completed by 168 applicants for the President's Volunteer Service Award. Read more about our Service Awards. | |
June
The YCS Summer of Service program engaged 48 Youth Leaders in 5 different service area tracks to complete 2,310 service hours. Join us for our popular Summer of Service in 2024, register here to learn more about how you can make a difference while having fun. |

July
YCS offers regular service pop-ups and welcomes youth, individuals, families, neighborhood groups, and friends to engage together in service. In 2023, YCS organized over 15 service pop-ups with over 300 participants, including supporting a Farmers Market at Alta Housing. Come join us for a pop-up in 2024.

YCS hosted the Kids’ Chalk-a-Lot at the annual Palo Alto Festival of the Arts. High school youth engaged younger children to create a masterpiece chalk art quilt next to world-renowned street chalk artists at the Italian Street Painting Expo. This intergenerational event highlights our work with over 250 community partners to create meaning service opportunities for youth.

September
YCS and 45 community partners and sponsors hosted the September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance that brought together 350 volunteers to complete 1,000+ service hours at 18 service sites in 6 cities across Santa Clara and San Mateo counties. October
The YCS after-school Peer Leadership program engages students to lead in-depth service projects on topics important to them. In October, YCS Youth Connect students facilitated a talk back at the world premier of "Toxic" a play about gun violence in schools. We invite high school students to join our Youth Connect program and adults to become mentors and advisors.

November
YCS organized our Pillars of Support event, a special evening to celebrate and appreciate our wonderful supporters. Our distinguished panel shared personal reflections on the impact of service in their journey as community leaders. We also shared the impact of our programs over the past year. YCS Service Learning Club students at Palo Alto middle schools Fletcher, Greene and JLS middle schools hosted a holiday toy drive to support local organizations Help One Child, ConXion and Lauren's House to fulfill specific gift wishes of the children.
