Summary and Position Responsibilities:

The Interim YCS Palo Alto Youth Program Director will oversee and implement all Palo Alto Youth Programs including the programs below.  The Director must also build and maintain positive relationships with other YCS employees and community partners.

  • High School Clubs – The Director provides each club’s student leaders with mentorship and support while the students lead their peers in service projects. The director also maintains clear communication with the teacher sponsors and provides resources as needed. In addition, the Director also works with student leaders and key school staff to plan and implement School Service Days.
  • Attendance Academy Management: — The Director is responsible for coordinating all logistics for five schools’ Attendance Academies. This includes working with schools’ administrators, writing lessons, securing service projects, and overseeing/scheduling facilitators.
  • School Service Days: The Director is responsible for planning five school service day events for each of the secondary schools. Each event is specific to the school, but generally follow the same format. The Director will oversee and support the middle school service days and will be the primary point person for the high school service days.
  • YCS Fellows Program: Co-Facilitate the high school service and leadership program. The Director will need to recruit students from Palo Alto for the program as well as share program planning, facilitating, and record keeping with the co-facilitator.
  • YCS Service Shout Support: — Support YCS staff in producing and distributing a monthly newsletter of service opportunities for local youth. The Director will also be responsible for ensuring Palo Alto staff and students receive and utilize the Shout Out each month.
  • Supervise Middle School Programs: The Director is responsible for managing the two Palo Alto middle school facilitators as well as the YCS staff facilitating Attendance Academies. This includes weekly check ins, providing resources and support, and administrative duties such as signing timesheets.

  15. Working knowledge of Macintosh, Microsoft Word, and Excel required.

Other Qualifications:

  • Valid CA drivers license and reliable transportation for fieldwork
  • Able to work occasional evenings and weekends
  • Submit a copy of their DMV record and drivers license and automobile insurance
  • Clearance results from a TB test and place fingerprints on record
  • Current certifications in First Aid and CPR or be willing obtain within 30 days of hire
